The name “Auckland War Museum” put me off at first, and I thought it definitely wouldn’t be the right place with kids.
But it’s actually very child-friendly. There’s a great, authentic Māori show that you can book for a really good price. On the lower level there’s a marae you can look at, plus lots of information about the history and journey of the Māori.
Upstairs there’s one of the best hands-on children’s areas we’ve found on our travels so far. The museum is absolutely worth a visit.
You can also watch a volcanic eruption simulation — a super realistic experience… This time I’m sharing a few photos from the interactive kids’ area 🙂 There’s an incredible amount to discover here. In all the drawers you can admire animals and plants. Microscopes for exploring on your own are a wonderful activity…
And there are endlessly many little doors to open, with interesting things hidden behind them 🙂
